here’s an enthusiastic review of New Australian Stories, which should be in the shops now-ish. it’s a fine anthology and great to be in such good company. i’m only halfway through it, but a lot of these stories are giving me the punched-in-the-stomach feeling already. what a powerful bunch our short story writers are. inspires me to do better.
speaking of good company, the gum wall blog has a list of faves that mentions me in meanjin #69 – thanks bronwyn! i am starting to wish i had eight months of summer holiday to read all the other recommendations.
and finally, Overland has published my piece about Fighting Words, the creative writing centre in Dublin which i visited waaay back in july. It’s based on 826 Valencia, the same format that is used by London’s new Ministry of Stories. Am inspired to start something similar in Australia, though i am certain Alice is too small a place to do it in. But if anyone’s interested, please get in touch.
